Responsibilities:

  • Collect urgent supplies as required (e.g. blood)
  • Participate in patient tracking
  • Handle, dispatch and deliver to laboratory as necessary all clinical specimens in accordance with hospital policy as required
  • Deliver all aspects of patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse, or a member of medical staff
  • Communicate effectively with patients, relatives and team members ensuring confidentiality
  • Obtain venous blood samples on request according to Trust guidelines
  • Insert venous cannulae on request according to Trust guidelines
  • Record details of insertion of cannulae in patient notes as per clinical record keeping guidelines
  • Recognise deterioration in patient’s condition and report same to appropriate medical/nursing staff
  • Provision of basic life support as required
  • Follow Trust infection control principles

Requirements:

  • NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification in Health and Social Care is desirable.
  • Minimum of 6 months healthcare experience obtained in the UK.
  • Evidence of full immunity to Hepatitis B, MMR, Tuberculosis & Varicella.
  • Right to work in Northern Ireland without restriction. Unfortunately we cannot offer sponsorship for this role.
  • Band 3 training certificates for Venepuncture and Clinical Observations 
  • Ability to demonstrate compassion and empathy towards others.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
